In schools, there are different clothing expectations of students, supervisors and colleagues of women teachers. Some secondary school students rioted over women teachers' indecent dress-mini skirts. The colour, pattern and style of a teacher's clothes may create or rob off her authority. Psychological factors that mostly influenced career dress selection are, one's beliefs, cost of the item, dress in which one looks beautiful and styles suiting one's figure type. Item is well constructed, suitability for work and fitting characteristics are among the dress features that highly influenced the respondents. The socio-economic factors that had the most influence were amount of money available, number of dependants and occupation. The most utilized sources of information on career dress are dress displays and personal communication channels, namely family members, tailors and women friends. Majority of women teachers are opposed to a formal dress code due to the need for individuality. Various career dress styles such as mini skirt or dress, transparent clothing and tight fitting clothing are unacceptable. This book is targeted at postgraduate students pursuing fashion design degree.

An unprecedented visual odyssey celebrating Diane von Furstenberg's forty years as a groundbreaking designer and fashion icon and the dress that started it all. In 1972, Diane von Furstenberg arrived in New York with a suitcase full of jersey dresses that she had made at her friend Angelo Ferretti's factory in Italy. Two years later and encouraged by Vogue editor in chief Diana Vreeland, the distinctive design of her timeless wrap dress took the fashion world by storm and has evolved into a multitude of much-loved variations ever since. As visually dynamic as the prints that made von Furstenberg famous, this vibrant and long-awaited volume collects for the first time the rich illustrated history of her career and celebrates the forty-year journey of the iconic wrap dress. Featuring photographs by Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz, and Francesco Scavullo, among many others, artwork by close friends such as Andy Warhol and Francesco Clemente, and pictures of wrap dress lovers past and present-from Jerry Hall and Iman to Penélope Cruz and Michelle Obama-this is the definitive, must-have DVF fashion book.

Little Black Dress

A selectively curated overview of the little black dress in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, organized by Vogue contributing editor and fashion force André Leon Talley and published on the occasion of an exhibition at the SCAD Museum of Art (Savannah College of Art and Design), André Leon Talley Gallery. Featuring an impeccably selected group of about sixty dresses from many of the most eminent fashion houses, the book is a celebratory tribute to the iconic little black dress and its deeply resonant cultural and social significance in the modern era.Defined by the simplest parameters-color and shape-yet voluminous in possibility, the little black dress is personalized by the designer who imagined it and the woman who wears it. In one silhouette it can capture a woman's allure, and in one evening worn provide her with a reservoir of memories. It can sum up in one wardrobe reconnaissance the way you wore the way you were. A little black dress in any other color could dent a reputation, in black it can only elevate one. Whether made from the most superior fabrics, or designed in cutting-edge neoprene, the little black dress maintains its status as the game-changer, the free spirit and pleasure-seeker (Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy in Breakfast at Tiffany's), the career-launcher (Elizabeth Hurley in Versace), the going-for-broke risk-taker (Virginie Gautreau as Madame X), inevitably revealing truths about the women who have chosen to wear one.Three original essays offer personal histories in praise of the little black dress. An introduction by André Leon Talley and a foreword by Paula Wallace complete this exquisite volume. Together with a stunning collection of images, this book presents a singularly elegant portfolio.
